Blitz & Giveaway: Her Unexpected Hero (Kyra Jacobs)

Her Unexpected Hero

by Kyra Jacobs
Publication Date: July 17, 2017
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Bliss, Contemporary, Romance

BUY:

SYNOPSIS:

Maddie Frye, the Checkerberry Inn’s snarky, introverted chef, just wants to be left alone. But with the inn’s upcoming gala, Maddie’s boss has matchmaking on the brain. So when the gorgeous new guy in town helps her out for a night, she comes up with the perfect solution to her problem…

Cole Granville is looking for a fresh start. When a part-time job opens in the Checkerberry’s kitchen, he takes it without a second thought. The only catch? He’s got to help his sexy new coworker snag a date for an upcoming dance. But as he coaches Maddie on attracting her crush, Cole realizes he’s the one falling for the curvy brunette.

EXCERPTS:

Cole popped a fork full of roast into his mouth and savored the way it melted on his tongue. He hadn’t planned on working at the Checkerberry beyond this season, but if coming back in the spring would guarantee him a daily supply of Maddie’s cooking, it might well be worth it. If he didn’t tick her off one too many times between now and then, of course. “So, what really brought you by? Did he text you?”

“Oh. Yeah, actually he did.”

The smirk faded into something much more…hesitant. Why did she do that, wield confidence in the kitchen like a sword but be timid as a mouse outside of it?

“And?”

She rubbed one arm up and down along the other. “Well, he kind of invited me out to coffee Tuesday. Between my lunch and dinner shifts.”

Success! So why didn’t he feel like giving her a high five? This is what she wanted, right? Because it’s not what you want, whispered that pesky little voice again. He gave it a mental shove aside and did his best to look and sound happy for her.

“That’s great! See? I told you if we got you two conversing things would take off in no time.”

“Easy for you to say, you don’t have to sit there in some cramped coffee shop trying to think of non stupid-sounding things to say.”

Cole chewed and swallowed his latest bite, shaking his head. “What? Since when do you struggle thinking of things to say?”

“Since always.” She looked down.

“You never have that problem with me.”

“Because you’re…different.”

Take that, Tyson. Maddie doesn’t have to work to enjoy herself with me.

He shook his head, trying to get his head back in the game. This is not about me, this is not about me…

“Not like bad, different,” she continued with a grimace. “Just, well, we work together. Have a common bond.”

“And you and Tyson use the same fabric softener” He shrugged. She threw him a dark look. “Seriously, Madds, the guy is human, just like me, just like you. And he likes to cook or whatever. There’s something you can definitely talk about.”

“I guess so.”

Her gaze shifted to her lap. Cole finished the rest of his meal and pushed the plate away, his protective instincts scratching at his subconscious. There was more to her worries, something from her past that’d scared her off. He felt a sudden desire to hunt down the bastard who’d hurt her, who’d stolen her smile. Now that would be something worth doing time for.

“What was his name, Maddie?” he asked softly.

She looked up. “Sorry?”

“His name. The guy that hurt you in the past.”

SYNOPSIS:

ANNA

Three years, we’d been playing our little game. Pretending I was too quick to be caught and he was too slow to catch me. Pretending the tension between us wasn’t there. Pretending I wasn’t interested. He was a stubborn, misogynistic bastard.

And he fit me perfectly.

The only problem was that a man like Wolf wanted everything. Everything I didn’t want to give. We both had our past—pasts we weren’t ready to face, commitments we weren’t ready to make.

But we didn’t get to make that decision, because our pasts were alive, and when they came for us, I found that there was only one thing left for me to do.

It was time for me to face the wolf.

WOLF

From the second she strutted into my club, put a knife to my balls, and demanded I make her my lawyer, she got more than just a job. She got my balls handed to her on a silver platter. Because I knew I had to have her.

But shadows hung between us, and whenever I took one step closer, she took one step back. She was my prey, but every time I had her in my claws, she slipped out just in time, and I pretended it wasn’t my mistake.

But I was done letting her escape. My past taught me to protect what’s mine, and when shadows surfaced, threatening to destroy not just my club and principles but everything between us, I knew the game was over.
She was mine.

And it was about time I showed her.

ABOUT A.E. FISHER

Writing books had been a big part of my life for many years; whether it was writing in secret notebooks during class, writing amateur novels or posting stories online, I surrounded myself with it.

Of course, it has its up and downs, but I’ve never once thought that writing wasn’t for me.

Because of that, I can share the worlds I discover in my head with the outside world, and although that might sound crazy to some, it’s fine by me. So long as I can do what I love, I’m happy.

And every person who’s happy as a result of my writing is a bonus for which, I’m forever grateful for.

goodreads-badge-add-38px

EXCERPT:

She tilted her head a fraction. Was it an invitation? He leaned toward her.

“Coop, we shouldn’t,” she croaked, not moving.

“Oh, we really should,” he assured her as his mouth found hers.

Want exploded through him. Her lips were soft against his and she tasted of beer and freshness. Last time they’d kissed, it was over too soon. This time it’s on my terms. Her mouth opened to his as the beer fell from her hand. Coop discarded his own bottle and slid his hands around her back, drawing her closer.

The stars, the night sky, everything faded away.

She ran her hands down his back, turning him on more than it had the right to. He deepened the kiss before planting a trail of kisses down her neck. His fingers slid down the inside of her coat, but before he could tug her shirt from the waistband of her slacks, her cell phone beeped. It was like a siren in the night, and they both froze.

Pepper was the first to respond as she pulled away from him and a series of emotions flickered across her face.

“Um, I should check this. It could be urgent.”

“More urgent than this?” Coop tried to get his breathing under control.

She opened her mouth and then shut it again. Obviously lost for words. She stood up, carefully stepping over the beer that had spilled out onto the ground.

“I’m sorry, I’m not sure what came over me, but I should go.”

Coop bit back his disappointment with a shrug. “Sure. But you know Pepper. Kissing me once might have been an accident, but twice…”

“Twice was a mistake. It won’t happen again,” she said in a regal voice.

“You’re the boss,” he said. She turned her back and hurried toward her car and driveway.

Okay, so that had happened.
If only I knew what the hell that was.

Book Blitz & Giveaway: Setting Off Sparks (Jennifer Bernard)

Setting Off Sparks

A Jupiter Point Novel
by Jennifer Bernard
Publication Date: June 13, 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iBooks |Print

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Bernard returns to the town readers are falling in love with…

In one fiery moment, Finn Abrams went from cocksure firefighter to scarred survivor. Now all he wants is to put his life together again, get back on a hotshot crew, and figure out exactly what happened to him during the Big Canyon burnover. He never expected to be knocked off his feet by a gorgeous, no-nonsense stranger to Jupiter Point—the one woman who seems completely immune to his famous charm.

Coolly practical, Lisa Peretti knows she won’t be in Jupiter Point for long. As an ER nurse in Houston, she helped a friend escape a dangerous situation. Now she’s hiding out in the little town, determined to keep a low profile. The last thing she needs is attention, especially in the form of the tabloid-starring, actress-dating, too-sexy-for-his-own-good Finn Abrams.

Still, Lisa can’t resist someone who needs her help. As long as she can keep her distance, working with the local hero as he recovers from his burns should be no problem, right?

Wrong. When danger follows Lisa to Jupiter Point, she’s startled to find Finn ready, willing, and more than able to come to her rescue. Add to that a meddling movie crew, some kindhearted locals, and her own unruly heart, and Lisa quickly loses any shot at keeping her feelings under cover.

Fire season in Jupiter Point is always smokin’ hot…but this time it’s going to be Setting Off Sparks.

Excerpt

“I’m insanely attracted to you, Lisa. And unless I’m crazy, you’re attracted to me too.”

She bit her lip. Too bad she was such a bad liar. If she tried to deny it, he’d know in a flash. He could already read her so well. “Yes,” she admitted. “Fine, I’m attracted to you. You’re attractive. There’s chemistry. Sparks. And of course I feel them. I’m a nurse, not a nun.”

He studied her face intently. “Then what are you afraid of? It’s not the scars. They don’t bother you. We’re not in some kind of real professional setting with rules. No one’s going to care if we kiss.”

If we kiss.

The idea set off wild sparks in every direction. Kiss Finn? Oh yes. Her body was practically throwing a party at the thought. Her nipples tightened, liquid heat spread through her lower body. She imagined his sexy mouth pressed against hers, his scruff scraping against her soft skin. Her tongue tingled. She pressed it to the roof of her mouth.

This was crazy. She shook her head to break the spell.

Her practical side took over. Kissing Finn would be just like kissing anyone else. Anti-climactic. After all, kissing was tricky. It was so easy to overdo it. To be honest, kissing had never lived up to her expectations. Not once. In her opinion, it was an extremely overrated activity.

Yes, that was it! The answer came like a flashing neon sign. If she kissed Finn, she could shake this silly attraction-slash-crush she was developing. If he was at all slobbery or over-eager or clumsy with his kiss, she’d be over him—just like that.

And really, the chances were good that she’d find something to object to. The last time she’d kissed someone—a doctor she’d dated briefly—all kinds of thoughts had wandered through her head. I don’t like how his teeth feel. Did I get Mrs. Carter her meds yet? What’s the world record for longest kiss? What about shortest? Can we go for that?

Kissing Finn was the perfect solution.

“What’s going on in that brain of yours?” Finn asked, amusement curving his lips. She took in the scruff around his mouth. It would probably scrape her skin and break the mood. He still looked tired from his red-eye flight. This was the perfect moment; the kiss would suck, and she could forget about Finn.

“I was just…thinking…” Instead of finishing her sentence, she drew in a long breath and dove in. Bad kiss coming up.

Her lips met his. His breath is so sweet. That was her first thought. And then, Sweet mercy, that feels good.

And then, oh crap. Big miscalculation.
